Biography

Scandinavia has long been the fortress of Black Metal, exploring the raucous metal sounds that create a blistering infusion of juddering beats and intense experiences to wake audiences from an unsuspecting slumber. Norwegian band Black/Cell achieve all of that and more, emerging from the pandemic with a sound reminiscent of the power of the ancient Viking Gods.

Originally conceived by drummer and 15-year veteran of the music industry Tom Hagen, the seed of the band’s birth was planted in 2019 as he released solo projects Goliath and the EP Atonement.

As the years progressed the multi-instrumentalist brought in a band of brothers to add to his already considerable talents. With Simen Myrbakken on drums, Steven Le Moan on guitar, Atle Trettbergstuen on bass and Halvor Johansen on vocal, Black/Cell honours the genre of Black Metal made famous by Norwegian Pioneers such as Immortal and Satyricon.

Flicking the switch in 2021 to explode from one of the darkest moments in human history, the band have been releasing staggering music which has injected new vitality into the rock scene. Releasing the album Fear the Destroyer in 2021, they announced their arrival with a ferocious set of tracks that thundered from the Nordic mountains and swept across the icy fjords.
Not for the faint-hearted, the collection of seven songs burst onto the metal scene and heralded a new age of discordant riffs, skull-crushing beats, and dark, introspective lyricism. From the opening track ‘Agony of the Fallen Gods’ to the blistering close of ‘Vulture’, the band plumbed the depths of their raw emotions to produce an album with a force that cannot be denied.

Never to be outdone, Black/Cell followed up their debut album with their single titled ‘Cleansing’. Like a juggernaut of primeval sounds, the track carves a heavy swathe through the musical landscape with guttural vocals that are a roar from the soul. Beautifully brutal with complex rhythms and melodies plus drops and falls that create an exuberant anticipation of what is to come, ‘Cleansing’ is the song that will blast you from any complacent revery into a vortex of sound that never rests.

As the long hard Norwegian winter rolls around, Black/Cell are in the studio working on their live performances and preparing for another assault on the senses with a whole host of music to come. Discover their rich kaleidoscope of sound and be forever changed by the experience.
